As we journey through Nehemiah, we see that God was not only rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls, but He was also rebuilding His people. That same work continues in our church today.

Vision 2026: Building His Missional Community invites us to witness how Christ is shaping His body through the faithful service of every ministry.

In this Heart-to-heart series, each story reveals God at work among us and echoes Ephesians 4:16: Christ causes His body to “grow and build itself up in love, as each part does its work.” As you read, give thanks for those who serve, and ask, “Lord, where would You have me build?”

SUNDAY SCHOOL MINISTRY:  BUILDING THE NEXT GENERATION

When Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem, he was not rebuilding merely for himself. He was rebuilding a community where the next generation could once again know who they were as God’s people.

That same calling lies at the heart of Glory Sunday School.

From a handful of children in 1968, Sunday School has grown by God’s grace into one of our church’s largest ministries. There have been difficult seasons. During COVID-19, many children stopped attending, and some were lost along the way. Yet God remained faithful. Today, around 163 children and youths, aged 3 to 16, gather with us, while another 35 young adults continue their journey through Ascent.

Much has changed since 1968, but the calling remains the same: to help each generation know, love and follow Jesus Christ.

Today, children do much more than sit and listen. Through conversations, role play, games, crafts, music and other activities, they are encouraged to ask questions, understand God’s Word and discover what it means to live it out. Teachers seek not only to teach Bible knowledge but also to build relationships, mentor young lives and partner with parents in nurturing faith at home.

This is how Christ builds His community.

EPHESIANS 4:16 reminds us that the whole body grows “as each part does its work.” Our children are not simply the church of tomorrow. They are part of Christ’s body today. They need adults who will know their names, listen to their questions, walk with them and show them what following Jesus looks like.

Perhaps God has placed a child or young person on your heart. Perhaps He has given you patience, creativity, a love for Scripture, or simply a willingness to walk alongside the next generation.
