DOCCOM: BUILDING COMMUNITY IN A DIGITAL WORLD
When Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem, he used what was available to him to gather people, communicate the vision, and mobilise them for God’s work.
Today, one of the places where people gather is no longer physical, it is digital.
Our Digital Outreach & Connect Committee, or DOCcom, began in 2019 as a Communication Committee, establishing our social media, website and broadcast channels. What began as a response to COVID-19 has now taken on a larger purpose: to help more people know Christ, encourage believers in their daily walk, and connect people with His community.
Every post can become a doorway.
A sermon online may reach someone who would never enter a church. A prayer shared may encourage someone going through a difficult week. A photograph of a baptism can tell a story of God's transforming grace. An invitation may lead someone to a Bible study, fellowship gathering or outreach event. Our website alone recently recorded 1.5K active users and 1.2K new users, giving people opportunities to hear God's Word and discover more about our church.
This is how Christ builds His missional community.
Ephesians 4:16 reminds us that the whole body grows “as each part does its work.” Some preach, some serve and some welcome. Some use photography, video, writing, design, social media or technology to help the stories of what God is doing travel beyond our church walls.
DOCcom's vision is therefore more than keeping people informed. It is about digital outreach and connection, using the spaces where people already spend their time to point them towards Christ and His community.
Perhaps God has given you a creative eye, a way with words, digital skills, or simply a desire to tell His stories.
Could this be your place to build? Come help us take the story of what God is doing among us beyond our walls, beyond Sunday, and into the digital world.
