STORY 06
MIGRANT MINISTRY: A MINISTRY OF WELCOME AND HOPE
When Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem, he was rebuilding more than walls. He was restoring a place where God’s people could once again find security, community and belonging.
For many Filipina and Indonesian domestic workers in Singapore, home is far away. They have made the difficult sacrifice of leaving their families, and sometimes their own children to care for families here. Behind their smiles may be homesickness, loneliness and the challenges of adjusting to life in another country.
Our Migrant Ministry desires to offer something simple but precious: a place to belong. Through friendship, prayer, spiritual and emotional support, and the sharing of the Gospel, we want every sister who comes through our doors to know that she is valued and loved. More than providing a place to gather, we pray that they will encounter Jesus Christ, grow in Him, and discover a spiritual family away from home.
This is how Christ builds His community.
EPHESIANS 4:16 reminds us that the whole body grows and “builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” Sometimes our part begins simply by opening our hearts, learning someone’s name, listening to her story, sharing a meal, praying for her family, and welcoming her as a sister in Christ.
God has brought the nations to our doorstep. We do not always have to cross borders to participate in His mission. Sometimes mission begins with welcoming the person already among us.
Perhaps God is calling you to open not only your heart, but also your time and your life. Come, help us build a community where those far from home can find friendship, hope, and a home in Christ.
