When Nehemiah rebuilt Jerusalem, he was not thinking only about the present. He was rebuilding a community in which future generations could know God and live as His people. More than a century ago, our church shared that same vision.
In 1889, GPC’s founder, Preacher Joseph Koh, started what is today Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School. His desire was simple yet far-reaching: to educate children in the Bukit Timah community while nurturing lives grounded in Christian values. What began as service to a rural community has become a partnership that has blessed generations of children.
Today, that story continues through our Chaplaincy Ministry.
Our chaplains do more than conduct programmes. Through Daily Devotion, Christian Values Education, Christian Fellowship, Recess Ministry, Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade, and through everyday conversations, they walk alongside students, offering pastoral care, mentoring and spiritual encouragement.
This is how Christ builds His missional community.
EPHESIANS 4:16 reminds us that the whole body grows “as each part does its work.” For generations, pastors, chaplains, church members, school leaders and volunteers have each played a part in sowing seeds into young lives.
We may never know how far those seeds will travel. A word of encouragement, a prayer, a Bible story, or the example of a caring Christian adult may remain in a child’s heart for many years.
And this ministry reminds us of something important: the church’s mission does not end at the church gate. God sends us into our schools, workplaces and neighbourhoods to make Christ’s love visible.
Perhaps God is calling you to invest in a generation that comes after you.
Come, help us build beyond our walls, one child, one relationship, one generation at a time.
