During last year’s Christmas Combined Service, I intentionally chose to worship in the annex hall. I wanted to experience what it felt like to worship together, yet at a distance - watching the service through a screen. There was a sense of togetherness, but also a subtle distance. While I gave thanks for the improved sound and visual system, the atmosphere was undeniably different from the sanctuary.

On Christmas night, our community gathered for An Open Door For All—a celebration where everything came together for the glory of God. What began with music and worship overflowed into food, crafts, and even the tender gift of massage from our visually handicapped friends. It was a night where grace was not just sung, but lived.
Rehearsals were far from perfect-- lines were forgotten, the choir sometimes lost the music, and sickness made some late. Yet when the evening came, God wove it all into harmony. What seemed broken in practice became whole in performance, reminding us that His strength is made perfect in our weakness.

I was deeply moved when Phoebe shared about her intention behind the nativity presentation. She didn’t just assign roles; she saw people.
The youths became the shepherds—full of energy, curiosity, and wonder.
The young adults stepped into the roles of Mary and Joseph—navigating faith, responsibility, and obedience in the middle of life’s uncertainties. And our seniors from SAFE became the wise men—journeyed, reflective, and rich with lived wisdom.

We haven’t gathered for a 2-day-1-night office retreat in a long, long time. When we finally did, some of our team already asked, “Can we go 3 days and 2 nights next time, so we can bond deeper?” That hope touched me. But what really filled my heart was seeing how our pastoral team planned something fun yet profound. We had a great time to play, eat, talk, share, confess, repent, reconcile, and restore, all in just two days.

It’s already October, and my heart turns toward what lies ahead for us as a church. I had been preparing for our church Planning Day since May, and now it was over. More than preparing notes and slides, I’ve been on my knees, seeking God: “Lord, where are we heading after 2025? What is 2026? What is 2027?”

I first found my way to Glory Presbyterian Church as a student from Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School. Of all my classes, my favourite were the Christian Values Education (CVE) lessons filled with videos and “highly competitive” Bible quizzes that somehow made the stories of Scripture come alive. While I was definitely thankful that these lessons were non-examinable, given that they were usually conducted in Chinese, which meant I would only understand half of what was taught, these were my favourite because I always felt an unexplainable sense of peace and safety whenever in those classes. For that reason, I grew up desiring to be a teacher like them as I did not know the difference between school chaplaincy and academic teaching.
