SEEKING GOD’S PLAN FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS AND BEYOND

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.”

PROVERBS 16:9

It’s already October, and my heart turns toward what lies ahead for us as a church.  I had been preparing for our church Planning Day since May, and now it was over.  More than preparing notes and slides, I’ve been on my knees, seeking God: “Lord, where are we heading after 2025? What is 2026? What is 2027?”

This year, our vision has been to be God’s missional disciples. But vision cannot stop at one year. If discipleship is to be genuine, it must flow into community and broaden into impact. And so, I’ve been praying for a complete three-year cycle of missional living, one that can grow deeper and even be repeated beyond my own term.

Here is what I sensed from the Lord:

2025: Being His Missional Disciple God is growing each of us as His missional disciple. This is the foundation—lives deeply rooted in Christ, learning to know Him intimately, serve sacrificially, and show grace wholeheartedly.

2026: Building His Missional Community This calling cannot remain individual. It must flow outward into community—where disciples build together, sharing life, faith, and mission as one body in Christ.

2027: Broadening His Missional Impact From a healthy community comes multiplication. I pray that God will broaden His missional impact through us—not only within GPC, but also beyond, into our neighbourhoods, our city, and even the nations.

By 2027, I will be 64. By God’s grace, this will also mark the end of my four-year term as Senior Pastor. I sense this may be the right season to pass the baton to the next shepherd, while continuing to serve as an associate to support him.

This is not a decision of my own making - it must be God’s. And so, I ask: Will you pray with me? Pray that the Lord will confirm this plan, and if it is His will, that He will raise the right person to carry His vision forward. Pray that together, from 2025 to 2027, we will live one complete cycle of being His disciples, His community, and His witnesses to the world.

Because the mission of the church is not ours to carry alone. It is God’s mission, and we are invited to join Him. Christ is the head of His church, and by His Spirit, He will lead us forward in hope, unity, and faithfulness.

Being His Missional Disciple,

Pastor Forest
