CG Month Special 3: More Than Just Bible Study

When we think about CG, it’s easy to imagine a cozy, safe place where we study the Bible, pray, and catch up with friends. And while that is part of it, it is not the whole picture. CG is not just a safe place to study the Bible. It’s God’s training ground for mission.

It’s the place where we practice love when patience is tested. Where we exercise forgiveness when hurt happens. Where we build unity even when personalities clash. CG is where we prepare to serve beyond the CG - in our families, workplaces, and neighbourhood.

Without real participation, CG can slowly drift into becoming just another “Bible talk club” - good conversations, but little transformation.

But when we truly engage, something powerful happens. CG becomes the place where we learn to love God, love one another, and love our neighbours. It’s where belief becomes action. Where discipleship becomes life. Where faith moves from theory to reality - tested, stretched, and made strong. CG is not a hiding place. It’s a launching pad.

One example is one of our CGs that recently worked on a meaningful discipleship project. Together, they identified St Luke's Hospital as a place in need of care and encouragement. They wanted to do something meaningful for Mother’s Day. Several CG members, skilled in flower arrangement, they decided to bless the patients by organising a flower arrangement activity at the hospital. It became a beautiful opportunity not only to serve, but to bring joy and dignity to those who are often forgotten. The patients loved the flowers - especially because they made them with their own hands. The CG also experienced deep joy and bonding as they served together, growing in grace, unity, and mission.

So this CG Month, let's not settle for just showing up. Let’s commit to growing up - in love, in grace, and in mission. Let’s build CGs that are more than gatherings. Let’s build CGs that we become disciples who live for Christ together.
