Young Adults Fellowship (YAF).

Young Adults Fellowship-Reflections on 2002 and Ministry plans for 2003

Purpose of Ministry:
To be a fellowship for young adults where lives are centered on Christ. This is done through laying solid spiritual foundations, providing an environment for spiritual and social growth to take place and Discipleship-life impacting life.

Our target group ranges from those 20 years and above till they are married.

1. Reflections on 2002

Our theme for 2002 was Personal Revival through the Word, Worship, Service and Fellowship. We wanted to return to the source of all purpose and life-Jesus Christ.

The bible studies we had reflected this. We did a bible study on the “Calling of a Disciple”(Book of Luke), on Worship, and on “The Assurance of Salvation” (1 John).

To ground us in the essentials of our Faith we had several talks on Christian Doctrine: Scripture, Sin and Salvation. To cap the year’s programme, our retreat’s theme was “Remaining in Jesus” (John 15). We were reminded of God’s love in His redemption of us and were challenged to remain in Jesus by loving Him and one another. This was good preparation for our 2003 ministry.

2. Ministry plans for 2003

We saw that there was a need among the young adults (20-23 years) for deeper fellowship beyond that of Sunday Service and Sunday School. Without this it is likely they would leave the church or remain stagnant in their spiritual lives. Thus we decided that the Fellowship should concentrate on:

  • capturing the young adults in Church
  • laying a solid spiritual foundation (eg assurance of salvation)
  • giving them opportunities to grow spiritually and socially.

We plan to do this by:

  • publicizing the YAF and it’s role in all three services
  • touching on issues relevant to Young Adults (eg. work satisfaction, BGR)
  • training and giving opportunities for younger leaders to serve
  • building into their lives the importance of the Word of God

3. Resources required

A bigger budget is proposed in view of the objective of capturing the young adults’ interest and bringing them into the fellowship. More talks and fellowship outings are planned. The budget will also have to accommodate leadership training and a mid-year retreat for the leaders. There will also be a year-end retreat for all members of the Fellowship.

We would also require help in the following areas:

  • Prayer from the Congregation and Leadership
  • Adult sponsors and helpers. We need mentoring from those who are one step ahead of us in life. Those who can help us by providing material support are also most welcome.
  • Speakers at Seminars. Those with knowledge and/or experiences to share on pertinent topics like work satisfaction or BGR etc.
